John Brandon is President and Chief Executive Officer of Academic Systems, Inc. based in Mountain View, California. Academic Systems is a subsidiary of Lightspan, Inc. (LSPN), a leading provider of web-delivered and CD-ROM based multimedia instructional materials for Higher Education institutions and one of the largest technology-based education companies in the world. Lightspan completed its IPO in February, 2000, with a market cap of $600 million.
For the ten years prior to joining Academic Systems, Mr. Brandon was Vice President and General Manager of North America for Adobe Systems, head of all North American operations. Adobe's revenues in North America increased from $15 million to over $300 million during this period. When Adobe acquired Aldus Corporation for $550 million, Mr. Brandon moved to Seattle to run Aldus and increased shareholder value by over $1 billion in the first year.
Prior to Adobe, Mr. Brandon held positions with General Parametrics Corporation and Texas Instruments. Mr. Brandon serves on the boards of several non-profit organizations and two corporations. He also leads a team of Silicon Valley executives who speak regularly at the nation's top business schools, including Harvard, MIT, Duke and the University of Chicago, on the subjects of integrity and business ethics. The panel includes executives from Intel, Cisco, Sequoia Capital and Excite@Home. Mr. Brandon earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of California at Davis and lives in Menlo Park, California with his wife and three children.
